  34.                     In its default configuration, ZV REQUIRES Vern Buerg's
  35.                     LIST file viewing program and Phil Katz's PKUNZIP
  36.                     program.  LIST and PKUNZIP are Shareware and require
  37.                     separate registration with their authors.

  39.                     While ZV can be operated from the DOS command line
  40.                     using the format described above, it is most
  41.                     conveniently called as a user-defined shell command
  42.                     (or SmartViewer in DF 4.0 and later) from within the
  43.                     author's Directory Freedom (DF) program.

  86.           freely copied and transferred to individual parties.  It may be

  88.           long as NO FEE is charged for its distribution except for private

  92.           product for subscriber access.  ZV may be distributed on diskette

  116.           for which I request a registration fee, I'm not going to make any
  117.           guarantees here with respect to bug fixes or other technical
  118.           support.  Having said that, I do like my programs to be as
  119.           bug-free as possible, so feel free to report any problems which
  120.           you run across.

  135.           I'm likely to see your message and be able to respond).  I check
  136.           Channel One almost daily and the other electronic services at
  137.           least weekly in most cases.  In addition, I monitor the Interlink
  138.           and the PCRelay Shareware relays through Channel One.

  148.           1.0     Why and Whence ZV?
  149.           -----------------------

  151.           The main reason that I wrote ZV is the following: I have a
  152.           shareware file management program called Directory Freedom which
  153.           is small and fast in spite of having more wonderful and exciting
  154.           features than I could possibly describe here (Plug #1).  Yet,
  155.           there was still one thing which I continually ended up having to
  156.           exit DF to do -- namely, to view the contents of files contained
  157.           within ZIP files.

  159.           This annoyed me.
  160.  
  161.           I looked high and low for a program which I could call with DF's
  162.           nifty user-defined shell function (Plug #2), but nothing did
  163.           exactly what I needed.  So out came the assembler and, a week or
  164.           so later, out popped ZV,
  165.  
  166.           So.... armed with ZV, DF can now perform most of the major
  167.           archiving and de-archiving functions that people who deal
  168.           primarily with Phil Katz's ZIP format need.  (The next major rev
  169.           of DF will have the capability to archive files.)  For the fancy
  170.           stuff (such as selective de-archiving), you'll still need a
  171.           program like ARCMASTER or SHEZ, but DF will be able to handle all
  172.           the everyday stuff.
